Fantastic hotel
Show moreAlthough there were positive aspects to our stay, particularly the food and the standard of service from the hotel reception staff, several issues fell below the standard we expected. *Incorrect Room Type, and Concerns and Standards* On arrival, our room appeared reasonably modern and presentable. However, closer inspection and use of the facilities revealed several issues that raised concerns about the standard of cleaning and maintenance, and later finding out that we were not allocated the correct room on our departure. The kettle required cleaning to remove some water staining, and a small build-up of limescale. And one of the mugs provided had clearly not been dried properly after washing as there was water staining in it. The bathroom conditions were the worst of the issues we faced in the room. There were visible dark marks that appeared consistent with mould around the bath and tiled areas, with what looked like an attempt to paint over the affected areas with the same paint which was used to, I assume, modernise the bathroom. The bathroom ventilation grille was also visibly dusty, with a small amount of brown staining which i can only assume is rust. This raises questions about the thoroughness of cleaning, attention to detail, and the effectiveness of the ventilation. The grout between the tiles was also discoloured. It had a orange/brown colour to it which is consistent with the oils from the body. More specifically, body fat. As a former maintenance person for a well known fitness and sports facilities brand, I have seen and dealt with the issues of discoloured tile grout that requires extra treatment and cleaning to remove. The shower screen was also inadequate and leaked at one corner, allowing water to spread across the bathroom floor and soak the door. After showering on our first morning, we had to use thr bath towels provided to clean up the water as best we could. The bottom of the bathroom door was already showing signs of delamination, suggesting that repeated exposure to moisture, and the water from the shower, may have been an ongoing problem that has a simple fix. And I should also add that I observed silverfish coming from under the finishing tiles behind the toilet and beneath the bathtub. While I appreciate that occasional insects can occur in hotel environments, their presence, combined with the apparent damp and ventilation issues, added to my concerns about the condition of the bathroom. Taken together, these issues gave the impression that insufficient attention was being paid to cleaning, hygiene and preventative maintenance. On our departure, as I was walking with our luggage to load into our transfer, my wife had noticed something on the advertising board in the foyer. It showed double rooms, with a double bed, and she asked me as we got into the transfer vehicle whether I had booked a twin room, or a double. I said that I had booked a double. It would seem that we were given the wrong room type for our holiday. I wasn't very knowledgeable in this regard so I thought that two twin beds pushed up against one another was standard practice. Apparently I was wrong. And I should also add that the mattresses for the beds were not great. If not for the mattress toppers they would have been even worse to sleep or relax on.
