Disappointing Stay at Orka Sunrise Hotel – Definitely Not 5-Star Standard Our experience at Orka Sunrise Hotel was extremely disappointing, and unfortunately, I would not recommend this hotel, particularly for families. When we first arrived, we were allocated rooms that were far too small for our needs. We had two adults and a 16-year-old sharing one room, with the additional bed being a pull-out chair that converted into a bed. This was simply not adequate accommodation for three people. As a result, we decided to upgrade our rooms at an additional cost of £400 per room. With two rooms for a two-week holiday, this meant paying an extra £800. Sadly, the upgrade was not worth the money. When we were given the second room, there was a horrendous smell coming from the bathroom drains, which made the entire room unpleasant throughout our holiday. We reported the issue, but were told that this was the only room available apart from the smaller room we had already moved from. For the amount of money we paid, we expected a reasonable standard of cleanliness and accommodation. Unfortunately, even these basic expectations were not met. To make matters worse, the window in the balcony door was broken. We reported this and were told it would be repaired, but it remained broken for the duration of our stay. This was a safety concern and, in our opinion, completely unacceptable for a hotel of this advertised standard. Once again, we were left feeling that our only options were to accept the room as it was or return to the undersized room. The food was another major disappointment. The standard was very basic and certainly not what we would expect from a 5-star hotel. The choices were extremely repetitive, with very little variety throughout our two-week stay. The best night was undoubtedly Turkish night, which was excellent and really enjoyable. Unfortunately, on the other nights, the food did not come close to the standard we expected from a hotel advertising itself as 5-star. The snack bar was equally disappointing, with very repetitive options and little variety in the fillings available. Even the jacket potatoes seemed to offer the same limited choices, essentially cheese or tomato filling, with no real change throughout our stay. For a two-week holiday, we expected far more choice and variety. However, I do want to give credit where it is deserved, because the entertainment team and catering staff were the real highlights of our holiday. The entertainment team were absolutely fantastic and managed to make what was otherwise a very disappointing hotel experience genuinely enjoyable. They made a particular effort with our family, making us feel welcome, included and part of the Orka family. Their friendliness, enthusiasm and effort made a huge difference to our holiday, and we cannot thank them enough. They were undoubtedly the best thing about our stay. I would also like to thank the catering staff, who worked incredibly hard throughout our holiday. Despite the disappointing food choices, the staff themselves were always friendly, welcoming and happy, and their hard work deserves recognition. They should be proud of the effort they put in every day. Another point worth mentioning is that the hotel involves a considerable amount of walking and climbing stairs to reach some rooms. If you have mobility difficulties or struggle with stairs, I would strongly advise checking the access arrangements before booking. Overall, this was a very disappointing experience. We paid an additional £800 expecting better-quality accommodation, only to be left dealing with unpleasant smells, a broken window and problems that were never resolved. The basic standard of food and snack options also fell well below our expectations. This hotel is advertised as a 5-star property, but based on our experience, I would rate it no more than 3 stars at best. The basic standards of cleanliness, maintenance, safety, food quality and customer care simply fell short of what we expected. I would not recommend Orka Sunrise Hotel to families, especially those considering paying extra for an upgrade. We came away feeling that we had paid a significant amount of money for accommodation and an overall holiday experience that did not meet an acceptable 5-star standard. Finally, a huge thank you to the entertainment team and catering staff. You were the best part of our holiday, and your kindness, hard work and efforts to make our family feel part of the Orka family will not be forgotten. You deserve recognition for the positive experience you created despite the hotel’s shortcomings

We returned to this hotel because of past experiences. Unfortunately, some things are due a refurbishedment. The curtains and cushions and bed throws have been there for a few years now. Previously you could lift the interior blinds in the windows to see the lovely views but the option is no longer available.

Our experience unfortunately wasn’t the best at all, we realised people who booked with jet2 had a lot more benefits with their booking, I.e premium spirits with all inclusive and a free meal within the restaurants at the hotel. We also was under the impression that the hotel was a 5 star, the food was at least a 1 star, where we had to spend at least £600 on taxis and meals out because it was that bad. Our room flooded due to the rain and stained and made all our clothes wet. They didn’t offer anything or even an iron when needed. Overall we really didn’t have a good experience and throughout this we didn’t see one TUI rep!
