We had horrendous experience where I became ill and we were not given water. I lay in bed and called and requested water online 4 times. After 5 hours, we got water. No bottled water available except through room service. A rude staff member held us captive in the hotel literally during the stay to pay her 500USD after we went to reception to get a taxi for an overnighttrip. we were going an to an nearby familiar island to scatter my sons fathers ashes. I only had 30usd bill on my account and offered to pay that if there was a trust issue. Unfortunately for the staff I can speak Spanish and listened to them insult me and say as we had two small overnight bags and looked untrustworthy they would ask for 500USD In case we did not return after our trip as we had hotel wristbands on. The gate at the hotel is secured with barrier and there is an armed guard with a machine gun. We were denied access to our taxi or to leave the resort midstay for one night. We were literally not allowed to leave until I paid the 500USD. This was 4 days into our holiday and had used their taxi for an earlier trip in the holiday to playa del Carmen with no issues. As we chose to book our equivalent of uber as the price was more reasonable they argued about me u ting my own taxi, despite providing the name, plate of driver and the details on my phone. It was after this that I could hear derogatory remarks made about me being with a younger man, who is actually my son, that we were not trustworthy and had an attitude and we must be made to pay and apprehended. This money was returned to me a few days after departure. But the hotel also added a charge of 230USD for a dining experience that we did not in error. This was eventually removed the night before we departed with an apology after categoric proof we did not have any dining experience! The majority of the staff were exceptional. But to be with my son, booked our own trip to an island to scatter his dad’s ashes after he passed away 2 months ago and to be told we looked criminal in Spanish, along with other derogatory comments between 4 staff members was utterly disgusting. I did try and obtain evidence of this conversation recording additionally on google translate, but could only record the female member of staffs comments. Not the entirety of the group. I feel utterly disrespected. I left the hotel in tears going to scatter the anshes and did not want to return. But obviously all our belongings were at the hotel and I did not want to lose the money taken from me! I paid in total, well in excess of £5000 for a week for my son and I and it completely ruined what should have been a memorable and deeply personal trip! I’m disgusted. 8th time in Mexico in the last 3 years with TUI, but do not think I’d return as some things just can’t be made right. Not ever. One of the worst experiences in my life during one of the worst times in my life.

Great hotel with a fantastic beach which was very well cleared of seaweed every day. Our room was upgraded to a pool room which was lovely & a bottle of fizz on our anniversary. The 4 ala carte restaurants were excellent & staff were impeccable. Tropical gardens beautiful & again well maintained. Very good service on beach with drinks . Entertainment staff good if you did or didn't want to participate. Hotel room very large with plenty of storage.

The accommodation was not suitable - room on second floor no lift- the older worn out room ( dedicated for TUI costumers) we had to request upgrade ( not available on tui booking) to non tui room which was amazing … basically the hotel has the cheaper bad rooms and the newer section with excellent rooms if booked directly. I am disabled so it wasnt suitable at all
