Very nice place friendly and helpful staff. Very good breakfast choice, drinks reasonable prices. Mattresses are a little hard.

Hotel was clean, room though was very basic (laminate flooring had been broken and was repaired with screws!!!). We were on half board and the food was mediocre and barely warm - serving plates were cold - very poor value for money

Overall hotel The hotel claimed that it had been renovated after new ownership by the Senator chain, but it turns out it was only partial. It was bare with no pictures. The bar music blared out and there was no quiet area to sit and enjoy the view. People who were here before the sale said it had gone downhill. Room The airconditioning had not been fully renovated as ours would only put out a minimum temperature of 24deg C despite calling out the maintenance staff. The furniture was chipped and worn. The single soft seat was uncomforatable. We ended up using the balcony plastic garden furniture seats. The kettle had to be plugged into one of the 2 sockets at the bed side. There was no softness or decoration to the room. It was harsh and unwelcoming. Food Overall the food was awful in quality, taste, amount, range, preparation, presentation, temperature, repetition and cooking. There were inadequate descriptions of the dishes, when they bothered to put them out. We complained about the meals after our second dinner and there was a very slight improvement on the third night, but quality reverted after that. In particular there very little choice and what there was sometimes came round the next day. The meat was cooked to the point it could not be cut or chewed. It was mainly pork even with pork stew and pork steak at the same meal. There was always paella, pizza, chips, onion rings. The paella gave the impression it had the previous uneaten leftover meat in it, chopped up. There was no soup. The dish sauces were really watered down, more like a thin gravy. The salads, cheese, cold meat, sliced fruit was plain supermarket quality. Sweets comprised a mix of some of strawberry angel delight, carton custard, panacotta, poorly cooked rice pudding, mini cakes, bought in round cake which was cream with very little sponge. The breakfast was similar. What passed for bacon was hard and chewy. The fried eggs were overcooked with hard yolks swimming in grease. There was never any serving/cooking staff at the counters. This was the worst food we have ever had. It wa 2 star not 4 star. The dining room was less than a quarter full at the occasional very best. Surroundings Es Castell is a bit run down near the hotel. The immediate surrounding countryside is sandy, barren, low scrub. We know what 4 star accommodation should be like and this hotel comes nowhere near it. It relies on the views.

The hotel was modern, very clean and all staff very friendly and helpful. We enjoyed the position of the hotel being a short bus ride from Mahon and excellent views. There isn't a beach but that isn't what we look for.

Although the hotel was really good and the views where amazing, there was not many amenities near by to walk to. Which was a problem for my husband as he has mobility issues. So 3 of the days we got a taxi to Mahon for things to do.
