Although the accommodation was dated we felt it was in keeping with the totally relaxed experience we had. Certainly washed away the stresses of our working life

The accommodation was substandard and safety was not a primary concern for staff. Due to the upcoming refurbishment and full closure for 12 months staff were disinterested, unhelpful and all together lacking in any kind of standard of delivery which I would expect from a “reputable hotel” I can only assume this is in correlation with the upcoming closure. As noted by the on location rep, morale there was low. When major incidents happened with the parasols flying out of their bases and near missing my baby a staff member witnesses this, didn’t apologise or check on us. He merely fished one of the parasols which went into the pool out and then when my husband asked for a pin to secure the one which has fallen next to us he went and got one. The facilities were dirty, old, tired and unsafe with cracked external paving, many tiles missing from the pool, mildew, corrosion and mould all over the bathrooms, breakfast made on camping stoves! Just beyond poor. The lift was temporarily out of service our whole stay with clearly no attempt to make this temporary and fix it. There was used room service trays left in the hall ways for days, glasses collected into corners and at the bottom of stairs and which could have caused a further danger if there was a trip in the public domain. We had a cockroach in our room on my baby’s bottle shaker! This is clearly due to the lack of cleanliness across the resort. The food was repetitive and bang average at best and the all inclusive buffet looked like a poor afternoon tea at a low end cafe rather than a 4 star hotel restaurant. The staff overall just didn’t care and so many guests shared my dismay and had equally negative experiences all of which just seemed to be ignored by the staff team. I had no idea who to complain to or seek help from as due to the upcoming closure the chain had staff from other resorts in the location and everyone had different branded tshirt/ uniforms so it was very unclear who we could talk to. When we ever went to reception with a query the team were very disinterested focusing on answering calls and didn’t take much care in seeing to guests with any care or politeness which I would expect from any hotel. Overall, our holiday was a joke and not what I expected of Barbados or TUI. When I raised this frostiness in store with managers after they asked whether this could have been due to culture differences and a more laid back attitude in the Carribean but this was beyond that. We experienced such warmth and kindness at restaurants and other locations in St Lawrence Gap which thankfully salvaged our holiday but the staff in Turtle Beach, aside from a handful of women who were kind to the baby, were standoffish, disinterested and unhelpful.
