    Since the Hyatt took over the Villamill then they have reduced the 5 star experience by creating Premier Club which takes the best rooms and the near beach seating area. The 2 and 3 floor deluxe Seaview rooms (non premier club) now have an air conditioning problem which delivers food odours when it’s switched on. They are no longer setting table clothes on the terrace of the dining room for dinner or breakfast, they are no longer serving coffee and juice at the table for breakfast, they are no longer any teaspoons available and there are no longer any small starter plates available. The Villamill is an old hotel and earned its 5 stars as a well located, somewhat quirky but beautifully presented hotel. It is slowly losing the “add on” elements that earned it the 5 stars. The staff service remains very good. I think the contractual arrangement between Hesperian who manage the hotel and Hyatt who market it is also a factor behind the decline. Also Palmiera beach which is the beach in front of the hotel is now suffering from continuous near shore green algae, the algae is stated as being non toxic but the underlying issue is the supply of nutrients that encourage it to bloom. I suspect the Peguara sewage plant is now overloaded due to continuing developments in adjacent bays, the Peguara plant system discharges the treated wastewater offshore at Palmiera beach. Significantly the adjacent bays and smaller Cala’s are not affected by algae. We have been visitors every year to this hotel in Peguara for over 10 years but this year will be our last visit.

    It’s definitely not 5 Star by a long way, parts of the hotel where tired, small pool not enough lounges, no consistency at breakfast with food offered. Staff not very friendly, gardens where also poor, and ridiculous price to get hotel parking, which was not secure.

    Our stay at Secrets Villamil has been excellent and yes the excellent weather helped us to enjoy a lot more. Amax=zing, my partner mentioned the word heaven and paradise few times and she is very hard to please at times.
