Good location. Please note lift does not go to all floors.

The friendliness of the staff always making sure we were looked after. The hotel is old but we were in a recent addition with an adequately comfortable room and modern bathroom. This part of the hotel would be a problem for travellers who need a lift rather than stairs. The hotel is ideally located near the gondola station and in the pedestrianised zone. The outdoors in Schladming is the big attraction so the hotel is really just a base rather than a destination in itself.

The accommodation is a typical Austria small hotel, if you want international cuisine this isn't the place but all meals were freshly produced with a somewhat limited choice, however that said they were willing to provide an alternative if the menu didn't suit - choices being made the previous day. The room we had included a sofa, two chairs & a balcony with chairs, if you want a kettle in Austria, take your own. The hotel had an extensive (four sauna & one steam) sauna suite on the top floor with views of the town & mountains. Breakfast started at 7.00 so it was possible to catch an early bus, diner from 18.00 to 19.30, although the first night we didn't arrive until late and were served about 20.15.

There were no pastries and fruit for breakfast unless you counted the tinned fruit. The bread rolls nearly ran out if you didn't get there early even though the breakfast was available for a few hours. There didn't seem to be a changing area in the spa. There were no seats or sun loungers on the roof terrace which was a complete waste of a lovely space. It would have been nice to sit up there with a book after a long walk. You shouldn't advertise things that are not in use, this was disappointing. The evening salad bar was the same dull simple selection every day. It would have been nice if they'd mixed it up a bit. The new waiter kept trying to deliver our next course before we'd finished our current one so it felt rushed and not a very pleasant experience. We did enjoy having a room with a balcony but we've staying in much better 3 star hotels in Austria. This one felt quite tired. We are wondering if the owners had only recently taken it over. The location was good.
