Not suitable for vegetarians. little choice of food and lots of cross contamination with meat dishes. TUI website was completely inaccurate.

The hotel itself and the grounds are beautiful. The rooms are dated though. We upgraded to the honeymoon suite and although it was spacious it needed some work, the bath taps were rusty and the room just needed some maintenance to make it worth the money. The room wasn’t cleaned very well however the maids did make the bed and left flower heads on the sinks. Lots of construction work going on too but it’s needed for the rooms. The food and restaurants was amazing and the drinks were too. I would have liked a buffed dinner in our adults only side as we had to go to the family side if we wanted this and there was no air conditioning where we sat. Staff are amazing and very polite. We have been to this resort 4 times now but unfortunately this will be our last, this is due to the rooms and the beach being full of seaweed, is so bad you can’t swim in it and when your paying Caribbean prices you want blue sea not brown and the smell for the last 2 visits has been really strong.

TUI did not update us of hotel changes, resulting in issues with dining, also did not tell us about hotel work/building

Reception staff / concierge were unhelpful in resolving issues with our room and took too long to sort. TV didn't work, bath leaked, toilet had to be unblocked twice and still smelt and a leg fell off the bed. These issues were left unhealthy with, despite us bringing to staff's attention. We were moved to another room eventually after the first week. However the wardrobe doors didn't open/ close properly and the safe was in poor condition. However it was still an improvement from before. On check out, the hotel chip and pin machine didn't work. I could see from the screen that there was an issue with the machine regarding the PIN - it wasnt asking us to input our PIN and was cancelling the transactions. The hotel insisted it was an issue with our bank / cards. However, the card had worked fine elsewhere in DR and the hotel itself, including the ATM. Our bank confirmed that the reason it wasnt working was because the hotel disabled PIN inputs. This was embarrassing and stressful end to the holiday, which was fully the hotel's fault though they continued to refuse to accept responsibility for this. We also had difficulty contacting the hotel to advise we needed to move a restaurant booking due to being delayed on a trip. When this happened a second time, staff failed to respond to whatsapp message in a timely manner and left no answer as to whether we would be able to eat in the restaurant that evening (all restaurants had to be booked every night). The restaurant staff were very helpful once we returned and changed our booking woth no issue, but the reception staff / concierge were no help at all. The staff everywhere else were lovely, attentive and we were very happy with our stay. The area around the infinity pool is in desperate need of the tiles being relaid as these are all loose and a possible trip hazard. Could be an issue for less able bodied or people with balance issues.

Our room was an old one and tired but very clean. Having said that the bed was comfortable and the big hottub bath was amazing. Aircon didn’t work well enough. I’m sure the new refurbed rooms are much better. It’s the kind of hotel where you are allowed to put your towels on sunbeds during the night and then they are not used all day. In a week we got a sunbed once at 4pm. The all inclusive drinks were poor and no fresh orange. The food was very good in al a carte restaurants but not in buffet. Restaurants have to be booked 2-3days in advance so not great food for the first few days. Sargassum in July was terrible. Unable to get into the sea at all which isn’t their fault but a shame. Perfect weather though. Trips were amazing but very expensive. Rep was amazing at helping us book them. Just not the experience I expected from a tui hotel and the airport experience at Punta carna is one I’ll never do again!
